The largest bike festival in Minnesota is the Nature Valley Bicycle Festival. It started in 1998 and has grown to become a major annual sporting event. The festival races are completed in six stages and span over a period of five days.
The main stages are from Blaine to Cannon Falls, from uptown Minneapolis to Menomonie, Wis. and from Rice Park in St. Paul to Stillwater, MN. There are different types of races staged on tracks and roads and have various distances and standards.
Several Bike racing teams register every year including many professional women bikers. Actually this festival has become one of North America's most important women’s bike races. The festival has gained popularity due to the many beneficial qualities that biking provides. Biking promotes fitness, energy efficiency, smart transportation and a certain lifestyle that attracts tourists.
The races attract thousands of spectators who are welcome customers to the restaurants and other businesses in the region. Adding to the popularity of bike racing is the races are continually environmentally friendly, quieter and promote good health.
The Nature Valley Bicycle Festival is run by volunteers that focus on the mission is to promote biking and support Children's Hospitals and Clinics in Minnesota. All proceeds from the Festival are donated to the pediatric hospice at Children's.
