There are different collections that include the Hill Family collection consisting of close to 1600 cubic feet of papers, photographs, and objects. Plus experience the civil war collection that has around one thousand objects in relation to the war and conflicts in the Dakotas. The Sibley House Historic site in Mendota is another place that you should visit while on the trail of Minnesota heritage. The building is from the 19th century fur trade, and housed the residence of the first governor of the state. The next destination is the Lac Qui Parle Mission from where historic advances in the Dakota dictionary, Dakota language and gospel can be learned. It also happens to be the location of the 1826 fur post and mission.
In the St. Paul area you will find the Historic Fort Snelling that was once the farthest out post of the United States of America in the homeland of the Dakota Indians. Programs of the World War 2, the Civil War and the Dakota history can be viewed here.

In Minneapolis there is a museum that was built on the ruins of the world’s former largest flour mill. The Mill City Museum has the flour tower, an eight-story elevator show and baking laboratory where you will sharpen your baking skills before heading to the rooftop to have the magnificent view of the Mississippi river and the St. Antony Falls, lock and dam.
