Yachts are recreational water crafts magnificently built to give travelers the highest degree of comfort possible. The lengths of yachts range from less than 20 feet to several hundred feet long. The smaller ones are referred to as cabin cruisers while the very big ones are the mega yachts.
In Minnesota, there are numerous yachts and yacht clubs whose services you can enjoy as a member.
Located in White Bear Lake, Minnesota is the Black Bear Yacht Racing Association. This sailing and racing club was formed in 1984 for the purposes of recreation and education on matters pertaining to yachts. The club carries out classroom instructions for its members teaching the art of sailboat racing. It also organizes sailboat races and other social events that present members with the opportunity of meeting and exchanging ideas annually.
Family membership to the club is the most popular. This is where a family gets to use a single yacht. There is also a per boat membership for individual families that intend to race more than one boat. They have to purchase one racing membership for each yacht. A single basic membership enables one couple to crew on the same boat at the same time and skipper the boat with the permission from the owner.
Some of the social events organized by the club include; Spring Ice Breaker Banquet that takes place in April and the Fall Awards Banquet in the month of November. During the Fall Awards Banquet, members of the Black Bear Yacht Racing Association take part in a photo contest, and different awards handed to various members in recognition to their achievements in sailing. The "Brisson Cup" and the "you-can-take-it-with-you" trophy are some of the awards given.
The Calhoun Yacht Club that was organized in 1901 with the aim of promoting yacht racing, ice boating and canoe racing is another of the yacht club in Minnesota. The club operates various yachts including; C, Laser, Optimist, 420 and Pram. The club members meet on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays to deliberate on the sail boat races that they organize. Since 1947 the club hosts the Aquatennial Regatta yearly. Some of the social activities organized by the club include; Buoy Drawing Party and Fall Banquet and Trophy awards.
At the shores of Gull Lake you will find the Gull Lake Yacht Club. The club has an ultra modern facility that is situated near the entrance to Love Lake. It intends to use to enhance its service delivery as far as sailing is concerned. The facility has a large deck facing the lake from where members and various corporate organizations can host private events. There is the Gull Lake Sailing School that focuses on advancing children’s knowledge in sailing techniques.
Other Yacht clubs include the Duluth Yacht Club in Duluth, Stillwater Yacht Club in Stillwater, Lake Harriet Yacht Club in Minneapolis and Shorewood Yacht Club in Excelsior. A day out in the yachts with your family would be one of the most memorable days. During the next holidays try out the yacht clubs and experience the best of sailing.
